Free Drop-In Counselling in Edmonton

Your first session is free and available online, over the phone, or in person.

At some point in your life, you may be faced with an issue that you don’t know how to handle. Has anyone ever told you that it’s OK to ask for help?

Our mental health therapists can help you better understand your situation and support you to move successfully through it. We have experience with a broad range of issues, and our therapists are trained in helping people get through trauma.

Often, one session may be enough to help you think more clearly and work through your own solution when you are stuck.

With a little support, you will build skills and perspectives to raise healthy children, build strong relationships, heal from trauma, and navigate through change.

We are here to support you as you navigate:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Stress
  • Relationship challenges, including separation and divorce
  • Grief and loss
  • Parenting challenges and conflict
  • Child and adolescent development and behaviour
  • Domestic abuse prevention
  • Trauma and change

Who can access counselling?

Anyone aged 18 or over can access counselling. Youth under 18 can talk to a therapist with their parents’ consent. Parents must talk with the therapist first.

Our counselling services are available only to people living in Alberta, Canada.

When and where is it offered?

You can attend a session online, over the phone, and in person.

Counselling is available:

10 AM - 7 PM Monday to Thursday

10 AM - 3 PM Friday and Saturday

How much does it cost?

The first session is free.

Our standard rate for follow-up sessions is $180. We offer subsidies on a sliding scale. That means your fee depends on your income and how much you can afford to pay. We want to make sure everyone can access mental health supports.

If you have insurance or extended health benefits you would like to use toward counselling, email therapy-leads@familycentre.org for more information.

How do I get started?

You can walk in for counselling in person. You can also book an appointment online or by calling us at 780-423-2831.

What can I expect?

A counselling session is 50 minutes. You will fill out intake forms ahead of time. That means we can start addressing your concerns right away at your first session.

The therapist will focus on your strengths and abilities to help you create a plan for the change you most want in your life.

If needed, follow-up appointments can be booked with the therapist at the end of the session.

“Have the strength & courage to walk through the door. There’s help that you can’t even imagine possible. Your future will certainly change. You don’t have to be defined by your past. Have that faith and courage to get help. Counselling is for everybody, all walks of life.”
